Fall, 2014

Concept:

For my Theatre Crafts class in the fall of 2014 I was assigned to make a character headpiece out of foam.  I decided to create a headpiece that could be worn by performer that played the Big Bad Wolf for a production of Into the Woods.  I was inspired by shaman-like headdresses that would allow a performer to have the silhouette of a wolf without covering them with cumbersome prosthetics.  The wolf is also a character who lives in the woods and is a product of the environment in which he lives, this design would help him to blend into his surroundings.

I created all of the components of the headpiece except for the eyes, which I ordered from a taxidermy supply company.  The headpiece is made from L200 and mattress foams.  The teeth were sculpted in clay, moulded and cast using Oomoo silicone rubber and white plastic, then painted, and the nose was made from black oven-bake clay.
