Concept:

UW-Parkside's production of Mary Zimmerman's Arabian Nights was my first time designing makeup, (or anything) for a show.  The director wanted the production to be vibrant like a storybook or Bollywood movie, but also have some sort of Middle Eastern cultural accuracy.  I conduced a lot of research into makeup styles, jewelry, head wrappings, hair styles and the cultural significance for both men and women for this production.

For the character of Harun Al-Rashid, I built and applied a crepe wool beard and eyebrows to the performer every night.  I also worked closely with the costume designer to bring the color of a character's costume into their makeup to create a more cohesive look.
