The Taming of the Shrew
Trompe O'Leil Bookcase
Scenic Painter
University of Wisconsin- Parkside; Spring 2014
Directed by Jennifer Sasaman
Scenic Designer: Jody Sekas; Lighting Designer: Jake Bray
Concept:
UW-Parkside's production of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shew was set immediately following World War II. Our scenic designer made the choice to use a lot of projections in order to help create a sense of place. There were also a lot of doorways and several interchangeable pieces that went into them to differentiate between scenes. My main project for this production was to crate a flat that had the appearance of a bookcase, this flat could later be hooked into place in one of the doorways. I used chiaroscuro painting techniques to help give the illusion of depth to the flat. The project took me about a week to complete.
